Get Rid of Household Hazardous Waste

Our garage had become a graveyard for old computer monitors and paint cans. These materials are toxic to the environment, so we know not to just toss them in the garbage

bin. On a recent Saturday, we gathered all  of our electronic waste and hazardous materials, and took a road trip.

The first stop was Xtreme Electronic Recycling at 1090 Cole Avenue, Suite A in Clovis. There are several e-waste facilities in the Fresno area, and this was the one we identified as open when we needed it. We also wanted a facility that would not charge us to drop our e-waste.

Next stop was the County of Fresno Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Facility at 1327 West Dan Ronquillo Drive. They are open Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. When we arrived, there was a short line of cars ahead of us, but after a brief wait, we were soon off-loading our household hazardous waste. The employees were friendly and efficient, and we received a couple of unexpected bonuses. They gave us a small kitchen compost bin, which we are excited to use. They also pointed out the Reuse Center, where we were able to choose up to 5 items from a selection of household chemicals that had been dropped off at the facility. We choose a bottle of cleaner to use in our home.

Homebound residents or those with special circumstances are encouraged to call the HHW Facility at (559) 600-4259 during normal operational hours to see if accommodations can be arranged.
